Former Shell executive David Lawrence has shown an appreciation for science education throughout his career. In addition to supporting Shell’s education initiatives, David Lawrence has served as an instructor at Yavapai College, championed an American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) scholarship program, and currently serves as the advisory board chairman for the Yale Climate and Energy Institute. The AAPG Foundation continues educational efforts such as these through support of initiatives like Earth Science Week.
Earth Science Week is held every October with curriculum and activities designed to benefit young people from kindergarten through college. Teachers, parents, and students can take advantage of the lesson plans, activity ideas, and local event information at http://www.earthsciweek.org. Educators can order toolkits to use in their classrooms, and a variety of contests can connect students around the globe. The 2016 Earth Science Week theme is “Our Shared Geoheritage,” with the goal of promoting topics that include energy, paleontology, conservation, water quality, and climate science.
